Wie jedes Jahr möchte ich auch 2014 meine Kinomomente des Jahres beschreiben. Diese Liste ist keineswegs endgültig, da ich sicher in den kommenden Jahren viele Schätze entdecken werde, die es verdient gehabt hätten, auf meiner diesjährigen Liste zu stehen. Ich beschreibe ausschließlich Momente aus Filmen aus dem Jahr 2014. Dabei gehen natürlich eine Menge Filme verloren, die ich dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal gesehen habe und die mir vielleicht die wahren Kinomomente des Jahres bescherten. Damit meine ich zum einen die zahlreichen Retrospektiven im Österreichischen Filmmuseum (hier vor allem jene von John Ford, Hou Hsiao-Hsien und Satyajit Ray), im Stadtkino Wien (Tsai Ming-liang), im Metrokino Wien (Peter Handke Schau), auf Crossing Europe (Joanna Hogg) oder der Diagonale (Agnès Godard). Außerdem gibt es natürlich Filme, die erst dieses Jahr regulär oder nicht-regulär ins Kino kamen, die ich aber zum Jahr 2013 rechne. Dazu gehört allen voran die Entfremdungshypnose Under the Skin von Jonathan Glazer oder der zugedröhnte Scorsese-Zirkus The Wolf of Wall Street.
Dies ist also weder eine subjektive Liste der besten Filme des Jahres noch gibt es in ihr irgendeine relevante Reihenfolge. Vielmehr ist es eine Liste, die in mir geblieben ist. Die kleinen Erinnerungen, die Träume, die man nach den Filmen hatte, die Ekstase, die man manchmal an Sekunden und manchmal an Stunden eines Films festmachen kann. Es geht um diese Atemzüge, in denen mein Herz aufgehört hat zu schlagen und ich das Gefühl hatte, etwas Besonderes zu sehen. Wenn Film in seiner Gegenwart schon wieder verschwindet, dann bekommt unsere Erinnerung daran eine besondere Bedeutung. Die Erinnerung speichert, verändert oder ignoriert einen Film. Sie ist nicht denkbar und nicht lenkbar. Genau hier trifft uns das Kino mit seiner Wahrheit. In der Erinnerung liegt auch die Fiktion, die im diesjährigen Kinojahr eine solch große Rolle gespielt hat. In vielen Filmen wurde die Frage gestellt, wann und wie Geschichten entstehen, wie sie an unsere Lügen, unsere Vergangenheit und an unsere Träume gebunden sind. Das Kino existiert zweimal. In der Gegenwart seiner Projektion und in der Gegenwart unserer Erinnerung.
Cavalo Dinheiro von Pedro Costa – Ventura spuckt
Eigentlich ist Cavalo Dinheiro ein einziger Augenblick, in dem jedes Blinzeln zu einer filmischen Sensation wird. Wenn ich mich allerdings für einen dieser Flügelschläge der Augenlider entscheiden muss, ist das jene Szene, in der wir aus einer weiteren Einstellung den erschöpften Ventura sehen. Er hat einen Husten- und Spu(c)kanfall und steht im Schatten einer Lichtung. Mit gebeugter Haltung bebt er zwischen Häusern, Welten und Zeiten. Dabei sind Vögel zu hören, wie ein Moment des Friedens in der (körperlichen) Revolution. Ein derart poetisches Leiden habe ich selten gesehen und gehört.
Feuerwerk am helllichten Tage von Diao Yinan – Die Zeit springt
Es ist dieser Sprung in die Zukunft, der mit einem Moped in einem Tunnel beginnt, der den Schnee, den verdreckten Schnee in die schwarze Kohle bringt. Das Moped verlässt den Tunnel und fährt an einem Betrunken vorbei. Es wird langsamer, dreht um. Hier beginnt das virtuose Spiel der Perspektivwechsel, eine Verunsicherung, eine Leere in der Stille und eine Anspannung im Angesicht der Mitmenschen. Es ist ein Phantom Ride, der umdreht, um zu stehlen. Am Straßenrand liegt völlig betrunken in einem Winterschlaf unsere Hauptfigur. Wir passieren ihn nur als Randfigur, aber wir ergreifen die Gelegenheit. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt herrscht ein Schleier der Verunsicherung über Bilder, Figuren und den Film selbst, der einen kaum mehr loslassen kann.
P’tit Quinquin von Bruno Dumont – Van der Weyden schießt in die Luft
In Bruno Dumonts Unfassbarkeit P’tit Quinquin herrscht eine anarchistische Derbheit, die sich in der ironischen Umarmung einer Absurdität und Deformation entlädt wie man sie wohl noch nie gesehen hat. Der Naturalist hat sich in einen Surrealisten der Realität verwandelt und mit der zuckenden und stolpernden Figur des Polizisten Van der Weyden hat er die perfekte Verkörperung seiner Welt erschaffen. In einer der vielen irrsinnigen Szenen dieser Figur schießt der gute Mann zum Schrecken seiner Umgebung spontan in die Luft. Es gibt keinen Grund dafür, außer vielleicht den Knall selbst, die Freude und das Adrenalin daran und genau hierin liegt der neue Existentialismus des Bruno Dumont. Man muss lachen und dann fühlt man sich ganz alleine.
Maidan von Sergei Loznitsa-Die Kamera bewegt sich
Mein formalistisches Herz erlitt einen Orgasmus als ich sah wie sich der Fels in der revolutionären Brandung, der von einer statisch-poetischen Kamera verkörpert wurde, dann doch dem Schicksal seiner Lebendigkeit ergeben musste und sich ob der zahlreichen Angriffe, dem Chaos der politischen Ungerechtigkeiten und den Prozessen einer Gemeinschaftlichkeit bewegen musste. Mitten im Kampfgeschehen stehend, flieht die Kamera hektisch wackelnd einmal in eine andere Position. Es ist die einzige Kamerabewegung im Film, an die ich mich erinnern kann. Alles andere ist statisch. Fast erstickende Sanitäter torkeln um sie herum und im nebeligen Hintergrund offenbart sich langsam eine schwarze Wand aus Polizisten. Stimmen sind zu hören und immer wieder ein Knall und plötzlich wird uns klar, dass wir gefährdet sind. Denn die Distanz, die wir haben, kann nur gebrochen werden, wenn sie eine Distanz bleibt und in ihrer Distanz angegriffen wird.
Jauja von Lisandro Alonso-Dinesen zieht seine Uniform an
Jauja ist ein Film voller Erinnerung. Vielleicht nehme ich aus diesem Grund ein Bild aus dem Film, das darüber hinausgeht, weil es neben dem somnambulen Aussetzen einer zeitlichen Regung auch einen einsamen Stolz erzählt, der so wichtig ist für unsere Wahrnehmung einer Person, sei es in Träumen, durch die Augen eines Hundes oder im Kino. Kapitän Dinesen (der aus undefinierbaren Gründen für mich beste Name einer Figur im Kinojahr 2014) hat festgestellt, dass seine Tochter in der Leere der Wüste verschwunden ist. Im murnauesquen Mondlicht macht er sich hektisch auf den Weg. Dann bricht er plötzlich ab. Ganz langsam richtet er seine Uniform her. Er kleidet sich. Er bereitet sich vor. Aus der Panik erwächst die Spiritualität, aus dem Mond wird ein entstehender, glühender Feuerball.
La meraviglie von Alice Rohrwacher-Bienenschwarm
La meraviglie ist wohl der einzige Film auf dieser Liste, der dem Leben nähersteht als dem Tod (obwohl er vom Tod erzählt…). Eine schier unendliche Energie geht durch die Alltäglichkeit des Kampfes dieser Bienenzüchterfamilie. Wie ein Sinnbild ohne Metaphorik fungieren dabei die Einstellungen, die sich im Surren und Treiben der Bienenschwärme verlieren. Denn die Lebendigkeit des Films und die organisierte und nur scheinbare Richtungslosigkeit finden sich auch in den schreienden Massen an Bienen. Aber welch Wunder dort wirklich möglich ist, zeigt sich in der Zärtlichkeit des Umgangs der älteren Tochter, die in einem perfekten Erklingen von Schönheit inmitten des Chaos eine Biene aus ihrem Mund klettern lässt. Magie und das ewige Summen bis die Zeit vorbei ist.
Turist von Ruben Östlund-Der POV Hubschrauber
Ruben Östlund beherrscht in seinem Turist die Psychologie seiner Figuren und jene des Publikums zur gleichen Zeit. Diese zynische Souveränität korrespondiert in ihrer perfiden Perfektion mit dem Inhalt und so ist es nur konsequent, dass Östlund sie mindestens an einer Stelle zusammenbrechen lässt. Diese Stelle findet sich im schockierendsten Perspektivwechsel des Kinojahres. In einem Moment der völligen Erbärmlichkeit, des grausamen Schweigens nach einer Offenbarung des Geschlechterkrieges, fliegt ein Spielzeugufo durch das Zimmer im Touristenhotel. Östlund schneidet in einen POV aus dem Gerät und bricht damit nicht nur die Anspannung sondern zeigt welch sarkastischer Horror sich hinter dieser Psychologie verbirgt. Ich springe jetzt noch, wenn ich mich daran erinnere. Es ist wie eine Erinnerung an die Welt inmitten des Dramas. Es sei natürlich gesagt, dass Turist ein Film ist, der sich mit der Bedeutung eines einzigen Moments befasst. Aber er sucht vielmehr die Momente, die aus einem Moment resultieren.
Journey to the West von Tsai Ming-liang – Lavant atmet
Im Fall der Meditation Journey to the West ist es ein Ton, den ich nicht vergessen kann. Es ist das ruhige Atmen des schlafenden Denis Lavant. Seine vibrierenden Nasenflügel, sein Erwachen, das antizipiert wird. Seine ruhende Kraft, die alles mit ihm macht, was es in den Bewegungssinfonien bei Carax kaum geben kann. Ich höre es. Sie befindet sich hinter einer geschlossenen Türe und die wie das so ist mit Worten, wird einem die Tragweite von ihnen zumeist nicht im Moment ihrer Aussprache bewusst, sondern im Moment der Reaktion. Hier ist die Reaktion eine Abwesenheit. Im Dunst eines erdrückenden Winters des Selbsthasses.

Sie bricht zusammen und beklagt weinend den Tod ihres Sohnes. Kurz darauf sitzt sie in einem Kreis und singt über den Tod ihres Sohnes und ihr Schicksal. Die Frauen und Männer, die um sie sitzen beginnen nach und nach zu weinen. Es läuft einem kalt den Rücken herunter, man muss selbst weinen, man spürt jeden Tropfen Verlorenheit, persönlich und politisch.
